Sending your child off to college can be nerve-racking — especially if they choose an out-of-state college. The experts at Indiana University want to help alleviate those fears by answering any questions you have about the process. We recently asked you to submit questions for IU to answer — and they’re back with the answers.

Here’s what they had to say:

Q: Do you offer out-of-state financial assistance?

A: IU is committed to minimizing post-college debt. We offer a variety of aid — from scholarships and grants to loans and work-study— based on factors such as academic merit and financial need. To be eligible for all opportunities, be sure to apply by Wednesday, Nov. 1.

Q: What mental health and community support resources do you have for students that may be struggling with the college transition and, even more so, being far away from home?

A: At IU, mental health is a priority. Students have access to health and wellness programs and resources, counselors + psychological services, plus 24/7 virtual mental health services. Through offering these services and facilitating an open dialogue, we aim to reduce the stigma around mental health and seeking care.

Q: How do you help to foster community among new students?

A: Bonding starts during New Student Orientation and never stops, with student programming, festivals, athletics, and more taking place all year. IU has 750+ clubs and organizations to meet every interest — or pique new ones.

Q: Will my student want to stay in Indiana forever?

A: An IU degree can take you anywhere. Students can develop vital skills through internship, research, and study abroad opportunities, and also have the opportunity to enhance their expertise through our accelerated master’s programs. No matter their path, your student will enter the professional world ready for anything, anywhere.
